figurative sculpture

Spontaneously made sculpture using sticks coated with clay ( in which the clay burns away during firing ) are a way in which I like to engage with form as a dance, sometimes finding movement in the sticks as a start point for pieces. The theme then develops and grows in feeling. I have also made pieces using straw and string, to increase the delineation of space. Below are several pieces made in this way

This sculpture ..."The Dance"... was made in 2000. It is 7ft high, in sections which can be re-assembled for transportation.

As part of a series on dance and movement the piece was made from low fired clay painted with slips and oxide. Hence the ceramic is fragile so would be unsuitable for handling by the public, and minimally by staff. The piece is set on two solid granite stones.

Delivery and assembly can be arranged by negotiation. Please contact me for more details.
